Albany (Nov 28-Sat, Dec 3)Albany, Polo, King City, Princeton, Stanberry, Worth County
No Jefferson opens the field up. Polo might be early favorite. PVC Tournament (Nov 28-Fri, Dec 2)South Nodaway, Osborn, Stewartsville, DeKalb, Union Star, Jefferson, NE Nodaway, North Andrew
Now a conference tournament instead of invitational with Jefferson joining. Not sure how the tournament is set up but I believe finals is at Northwest Missouri State so it should be fun. Expect DeKalb and Jefferson there. KCI Tournament (Sat, Dec 3-Fri, Dec 9)Lathrop, Mid-Buchanan, Plattsburg, North Platte, East Buchanan, West Platte, Lawson
Technically the tournament starts on the final day of the season's opening week so we will count it! Opening round is always a good round to go watch a lot of basketball. This Tournament, known for their odd format, is played at Mid-Buchanan this season where heavy favorites seem to be Lawson, East Buchanan and West Platte although MB has home court and is never easy to knock off no matter how down they appear. | Gallatin (Nov 28-Sat, Dec 3)Gallatin, Penney, Maysville, Trenton, Gilman City, Winston, Tri-County, Newtown-Harris
Hamilton should again be easy favorite here but be on the lookout for either Trenton and Gallatin to make the finals. Mound City (Nov 28-Sat, Dec 3)Mound City, CFX, Rock Port, Tarkio, West Nodaway, Nodaway-Holt, South Holt, North Nodaway
Mound City stands out as favorite but it could be an open field for everyone. Savannah (Nov 28-Sat, Dec 3)Savannah, LeBlond, Maryville, Excelsior Springs, Liberty North, Winnetonka, Platte County, Chillicothe
Easily the most packed field of any season opening tournament. Savannah is finally back up to an 8 team tournament and no junior varsity squads in the field. Further, they usually go all boys nights so each night is usually a lot of basketball for your buck! Great value tournament here and not sure who the favorite is yet! |
HDC Conference (Sat, Dec 10-Fri, Dec 16)Tri-County, Winston, Cainsville, Gilman City, Grundy, North Harrison, Mercer, Pattonsburg, Newtown-Harris, Ridgeway, North Daviess
This bad boy has moved around some and is now in mid-december but it another fun that that starts on Saturday and don't let the small schools fool you, there is an intense following. Hosted by Grundy this year, it seems to be as open as I can remember for a long time. | NWMO Tournament (Dec 12-Fri, Dec 16)West Nodaway, CFX, NE Nodaway, Nod-Holt, North Nodaway, South Nodaway, Maryville JV
No, we are hosting this fairly new tournament, NE Nodaway is with their newer gym. Maryville JV made a run at it or won it, can't quite remember which. Don't be surprised if they make another charge at it this year. |
Harrisonville (Dec 19-Dec 21)Harrisonville, Butler, Cameron, Center, Drexel, Lee Summit CC, Nevada, Platte County
Now an 8 team tournament, this thing gets you in and out with basketball in three straight days right before Santa Claus comes to town. Cameron steam rolled through this one a year ago and they will be a favorite again with a great collection of younger kids ready to step in but Platte County and Harrisonville, among others, should compete for the crown as well. | LeBlond (Dec 28-Dec 30)LeBlond, Falls City, East Buchanan, Tarkio, St. Joe Christian, Mid-Buchanan, University Academy, Chillicothe
LeBlond is another quick, 3 day tournament and is back up to 8 teams after a few years of rolling out some JV teams to fill the field. This should be a can't miss tournament with Chillicothe and a dangerous Christian team entering a tournament where Falls City and Mid-Buchanan typically wage a great game and East Buchanan as well as University Academy figure to be loaded this year. |
Braymer (Jan 2-Sat, Jan 7)Braymer, SW Livingston, Stet, Breckenridge, Norborne, Tina-Avalon, Hardin-Central, Maysville JV
Don't celebrate the new year too long as the Braymer tournament kicks into gear immediately! Braymer should be heavy favorites in this one. Osborn (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)Osborn, Winston, Pattonsburg, KC Lutheran, Stewartsville, Union Star, DeKalb, DeKalb JV
DeKalb should stroll to a 2nd straight title. Lawson (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)Lawson, Gallatin, Hamilton, West Platte, Carrollton, Lexington, Richmond, Plattsburg
Always an entertaining finals game, this year should feature pretty good semi-final battles along the way as well. South Harrison (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)South Harrison, Princeton, NE Nodaway, North Harrison, Trenton, Ridgeway, Putnam County
Addition of Trenton makes this a bit better than past seasons and they are talented if they can put it together. South Harrison and Putnam will likely be a challenge to them though. | Stanberry (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)Stanberry, Jefferson, Albany, King City, North Andrew, South Nodaway, Mound City, Worth County
Jefferson holds a strangle hold on this tournament and it likely won't change again this year. This long-time tournament kicks off a big tournament week in NWMO. Fairfax (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)CFX, Nodaway-Holt, Tarkio, Rock Port, North Nodaway, South Holt, West Nodaway, SJ Christian.
Christian is likely heavy favorite here but this tournament best known for the playing of winner's round on Wed. Lathrop (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)Lathrop, Maysville, North Platte, Polo, East Buchanan, St. Mary's, Orrick, Van Horn
East Buchanan will be the heavy favorite in this one but don't sleep on Polo who made it to the finals a year ago. Kearney (Jan 9-Sat, Jan 14)Kearney, Cameron, Benton, Savannah, Lafayette, North KC, Fort Osage, Warrensburg
The Half-MEC Tournament is usually a great one for the big schools as a good blend and all-boy nights are great value for anyone who wants to sit back and see plenty of different styles of basketball unleashed in one gym. |
Gilman City (Jan 23-Sat, Jan 28)Gilman City, Ridgeway, Cainsville, Tri-County, Pattonsburg, Stet, North Harrison, Union Star
A good small school tournament with good following in one of the neater old-time gyms in NWMO in my opinion. Hamilton (Jan 23-Sat, Jan 28)Penney, Gallatin, Trenton, West Platte, Lathrop, Richmond, South Harrison, Putnam County
Penney has dominated the field and had some great battles with Richmond but this year should be a wide open race with up to 6 teams believing they have a reasonable chance to win. North Platte (Jan 23-Fri, Jan 27)North Platte, Plattsburg, Mid-Buchanan, Jefferson, Cristo Ray, ACE, Braymer
This tournament continues to grow and get better and I especially like the title game being on Friday so you can still get your pick for a Saturday tournament. Jefferson should again be favored but have been stung by Mid-Buchanan the past two seasons and getting past Jefferson is a rarity in itself. | King City (Jan 23-Sat, Jan 28)King City, Maysville, Stanberry, North Andrew, South Holt, DeKalb, SJ Christian, Stewartsville
The addition of SJ Christian to the mix should improve this field and likely set up a big battle between them and DeKalb. Cameron (Jan 23-Sat, Jan 28)Cameron, Lawson, Excelsior Springs, LeBlond, Chillicothe, Smithville
This once fun filled tournament has fallen back a bit in recent years. It still has good competition but lacks the true tournament feel without the traditional bracket. Cameron, Lawson and Smithville should all be contenders but don't count out LeBlond or Chillicothe and new coach Tim Cool. |
